API 653 Tank Inspection

Al-Yami Robotics is specialized in providing tank solution with a pro-active approach for safer and reliable operation of storage tanks. In service robotic inspection of storage tanks as per API 653 by our experienced professionals of Al-Yami robotics help you to reduce risk and ensure quality and accuracy, as well as meeting regulatory requirements.

Technology Summary

In-service robotic tank inspection is a proven technology incorporated in American Petroleum Institute Standards (API 653 , API RP 575) for inspection of the bottom plate while the tank is in-service ( containing the product). The technology has been adopted by global leading companies in HPI , O&G, Petrochemical, and Utilities industries as an efficient and cost-effective methodology for online inspection of Above Ground Tanks

As Per API Recommended practice 575 section 6 It is stated that “API Std 653 recognizes the proper use of alternative inspection methodologies. For example, robotic inspection is one possible approach to achieve an assessment of the tank bottom and other internal members without personnel entry.” Further in API RP Appendix A (Selected Non-Destructive Examination Methods) part A.5 it is mentioned that Robotic inspection is one of the recommended practises for storage tank inspection.

Following are the advantages for the In-Service Robotic Inspection
  • No Loss of Storage
  • No Personnel Entry
  • No Need of Scaffolding
  • Eliminates the need for tank bottom surface preparation for inspection such as cleaning and sand blasting etc
  • More Collection of UT Data as compared to Conventional inspection
  • Increased Operational Hours of storage without Shutdown
  • More Precise analysis of UT Thickness data as per EVA (Extreme Value Analysis)
